After leaving my last company in June 2020, I knew that I wanted to pivot my career. At the time I just didn’t know into exactly what. So for 6 months I gave myself permission to explore. I had an awesome opportunity to be the lead teacher at an INTech Camp for Girls to teach underserved middle school aged girls how to code in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I was selected to join Google’s 8week Learning Workshop where I soaked up knowledge about Google Cloud Platform. I even partnered with another student to present an architecture for a social media app. I determined that Cloud is where I wanted to be and I needed to take steps to get more training in it.

Needed Accountability, Structure and Community!

I began using Linux Academy to study for my GCP Associate Cloud Engineer (GCP ACE) certification. I must say I had hit and miss days with studying alone. I knew I needed accountability, structure and community. While I was watching a video about choosing the right DB for GCP taught by Broadus Palmer, my curiosity was piqued. So I looked Broadus up in LinkedIn. There is where I found out he was the CEO Level Up In Tech(LUIT) Cloud Boot Camp. He is on a mission to train anyone who wanted to learn Cloud — with or without an IT background. He in fact is a success story of pivoting his career from a banker to a Linux Academy Cloud Instructor and business owner. I had to do more research so I listened to his videos and checked out the website. After my consult with Broadus, it was confirmed that this was another stepping stone on my career pivot journey. Check out me speaking more about why I chose Level Up In Tech AWS DevOps Boot Camp.

I’m in!!!

Keep moving FORWARD!

I am documenting this journey to inspire those who are making a career pivot. I will also be sharing hands-on articles about the technologies I am learning.

Please use the comments to share your career pivots so that we can all be inspired!
